IDBS Press Release

Max Planck Institute triples licenses for IDBS' E-WorkBook solution

Guildford, UK, October 23 2008 - IDBS, an industry-leading provider of enterprise data management solutions, announced that the prestigious Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology (Berlin, Germany) has expanded its usage of E-WorkBook by trebling its number of E-WorkBook licenses.

Extending the use of E-WorkBook to include pure biology as well as molecular biology, the institute, which has been using E-WorkBook since June 2006, upgraded to the latest release of IDBS' (ELN), E-WorkBook 8. Currently engaged in numerous programmes, the institute's research includes various high throughput screening strategies as well as the analysis of molecular and cellular mechanisms of infection, using pathogenic bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori and Salmonella, for the development of novel preventative and therapeutic measures against infection.

E-WorkBook satisfies all research and organizational governance rules and regulations, while protecting intellectual property (IP) and efficiently managing research data in one secure location. Providing controlled access to research data, E-WorkBook has contributed to the institute's high standards of good research practice, allowing scientists to keep up to date with information generated by the institute and other researchers.

Using E-WorkBook, scientists can easily share and discuss experimental data without having to prepare lengthy reports, saving time and improving productivity. Data captured within E-WorkBook is both secure and transparent, with access controlled by a hierarchy of user privileges. E-WorkBook also helped the institute to advance its archiving system to ensure that data is always available online.

Dr Elke Mueller of the institute commented: "We are pleased to be working with IDBS and applying the benefits of an ELN to our research. Of particular interest is the ability to quickly search information and make it available to other researchers. This gives scientists more time at the bench and less time searching mountains of paper."

Neil Kipling, founder and CEO of IDBS, added: "Increasingly, leading research establishments are beginning to appreciate the improved efficiencies that ELNs deliver. E-WorkBook is one of the best solutions in the marketplace today because of its ability to centrally capture and manage both biological and chemical experimental data in a fully compliant, 21 CFR Part 11 validated environment. We are delighted to be working with such a renowned institute as Max Planck."
